The instructor for the classes is Boo Kwan Chan Nim Khan, who is a 8th Dan Black Belt holder, and he has been practising martial arts for 48 years. He was the first British black belt in Cambridgeshire which he achieved in April 1977. He has now qualified under the World Tang Soo Do Association instructors certification as Boo Kwan Chang Nim (Assistant Grandmaster) and was the first to achieve this rank outside of the US.
Boo Kwan Chang Nim Khan’s instructor was Grandmaster J.C.Shin, 9th Dan, President and the founder and Grandmaster of the World Tang Soo Do Association. Boo Kwan Chan Nim Khan is the regional director for region #11 which encompasses Western Europe. He has fulfilled this duty for many years as well as nurturing a steady growth for the World Tang Soo Do Association in Great Britain as the Chief Instructor. He has trained many students that have become National, European and World Champions. He has also overseen the testing of over 1000 black belts and over 40 masters.
Master Dawn Khan, is the wife of Boo Kwan Chang Nim Khan and holds the rank of 5th Dan Master within the World Tang Soo Do association. She instructs in both the St Ives and Huntingdon classes and also performs the role of secretary for Great Britain Tang Soo Do. Master Dawn started training in 1987 and became the first female master for this association in both Great Britain and Europe in 2005. Master Dawn says
“I feel that our Association is such a family orientated association and that’s what makes it such a worldwide association. It has brought many families closer together and mine is one of them. I don’t know of many other forms of physical fitness that have the same family feeling to them.”
This is true as all three of their children train with the association with the eldest Noreen, holding 5th Dan Master grade, Aisha holding 4th Dan Master Grade and Safiya holding 1st Dan Black Belt. Also within the club there are many family groups that enjoy training and keeping fit while learning a new skill together.
